  World Solar Programme 2010 – 2019

Building a Clean and Renewable Energy Highway of the 21st Century

The WSP 2010-2019 is an open-ended attempt to promote the adoption and widest possible utilization of clean and renewable energy sources and technologies. This should be achieved through the setting of agreed upon targets, appropriate standards, cooperation mechanisms, incentives and pooling of resources. Major benefits to be derived from the WSP 2010-2019 include the enhancement of quality of life of large number of people, particularly in rural areas, and the creation of additional employment through the development of new enterprises. The WSP 2010-2019 is a practical, realistic response to the world’s concern over its environment and associated economic problems, which will set us off on the “solar highway” leading to sustainable development.

The World Solar Programme 2010-2019 (WSP 2010-2019) should include actions to be implemented as a joint effort of international governmental and non-governmental organizations concerned, including the intergovernmental organizations and programmes of the United Nations system and European Union, academic and research institutions, financing institutions, industries and top actors of the private sector.

The World Solar Programme 2010-2019 should be seen as natural continuation of the WSP 1996 -2005 including global projects of universal value and high priority regional projects and high priority national projects.

There is a good chance that after deep financial and economic crises, which seem to be stepping down worldwide, the objectives of the WSP 2010-2019 will be achieved.
