World Leaders have major responsibilities
of informing their people and
communities about the challenges
facing future generations. Environmental challenges
are becoming real and expensive to deal
with. The involvement of Palestine in the World
Solar Programme and my membership in the
World Solar Commission are very clear commitments
from my government, my people and me
personally to support the utilization of re n e wable
energy and to integrate it in the national
energy policy. Palestine is one of the leading
countries in utilizing solar energy with more
than 75% of homes using solar water heating.
Following the World Solar Summit, we started a
major solar program to utilize solar energy to
electrify remote areas and places; 300 kWp of PV
systems will be installed in Palestine by the end
of 1998.
May the creation of the World Solar Programme
be a real opportunity to put all of us to work for
a peaceful world.
