An important basis for the use of solar
energy technologies has been created
in Israel through intensive studies and development
work.
As early as the 1950’s, Israeli scientists were
developing special selective coatings for the
absorption of solar energy in solar panels. This
led to the development of a solar water heating
industry .
In the 1980’s, an Israeli company was the first to
build large Solar Power Plants in the Californ i a
Mojave desert.
In 1997, Israeli and American companies agre e d
to continue the development of an advanced
high temperature Solar Power Plant based on
Research and Development work in Israel’s
Weizmann Institute.
As concluded after the last Harare World Solar
Summit Conference, Solar Energy can help provide
many nations with the energy necessary to
i m p rove their standard of living, commensurate
with environmental dictates.
UNESCO’s World Solar Summit Process for the
p romotion of Solar Energy can contribute to the
well-being of humanity and the environment ,
c reating a benign energy supply system based
on cutting edge technologies.
